-Collaboration with the city's art galleries

The philosophy of the 1st Thessaloniki Contemporary Art Biennale, which is organized by the State Museum of Contemporary Art from May 21st to September 30th, is to create a rallying atmosphere of collaboration among all the cultural institutions of the city. In this framework, collaborations and coproductions have been created between the Museum of Byzantine Culture, the Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, the Thessaloniki Cinema Museum, the Society of Macedonian Studies, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Municipality of Thermi, the Thessaloniki Port Authority, the Centre of Engraving Art "ILIOS" of the Municipality of Neapoli and the National Book Center. Therefore, the program had to include the city's art galleries, which operate in unison as additional channels of communication with the audience, the artists and the art scene of the city in general.

The established exhibition "Co-existence 2007" opens on June 7th. On this account, professors and students of the School of Fine Arts meet to... "converse". This year, the 4th workshop of the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is presented, with Yannis Fokas as director of the workshop. The common denominator is the location of the 4th painting workshop of the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the way that art education and, art in general, is seen in it.
The students or graduates of the 4th workshop, Aris Akritidis, Nikos Aslanidis, Maro Vasiliadou, Filippo Gudo, Theoni Dimopoulou, Eleni Karakiulah, Dimitra Kiomourzidou, Eleni Koukouli, Marina Konstantaki, Haris Pallas, Hara Piperidou, Vasilis Poulios, Eri Skiriani, Yorgos Tsalamanis, Konstantinos Fazos, Efthimia Hristopoulou and Elena Hristou use various means including painting, photography, installation and video. Reference and remark to the history of art, irony, experiences and social statement, are some of the subjects that the artists have chosen to deal with in their own personal manner. It's worth mentioning that the artists' works are characterized by variance and difference amongst them as well as the absence of an immediate connection to their teachers' work. The exhibition will be open to the public until July 4th 2007.
