-Art Exhibition "HETEROTOPIAS-HETEROTYPIΓ…S"

Three Polish Professors of Engraving in Wroclaw, Christopher Nowicki, Pawel Frazkiewcz and Jacek Szewczyk are exhibiting their works, decorated by different techniques such as black technique (mezzotinta), oxygraphy, digital printing and lithography. This exhibition is about works of art that are supporting the coexistence of two ways of thinking which belong in the same style.  On the other hand, they portray the diversity of their artistic quality and nature that consequently is coming into life through the personal need of expression and the choice of medium as also through the technical occurrence of the artistic expression.

Sahinis Xenis, Professor of Printmaking at the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki and Artistic Director of the "Helios" Printmaking Centre points out that, “a significant number of works of art which has been created according to the canon of the classical art of engravings, is continuously excluded from the eminent international organizations.  However, the opposite occurs with the digital images that are created by computers.  While the digital methods of creation are more prominent, on the other hand the classical methods are frequently rejected even thought the creator’s personal mythology derives from his own predicaments and today’s matters”.  He also adds that, “the South is welcoming, through “Heterotopias”, the “Heterotypias” of the North with the significant status that the Polish engraving maintains in the modern world of the artistic printings. I also believe that the works of art exhibited in this event are worthwhile and deserve our observation. The aura of the Northern mythology that they reveal is also valuable.  The artists’ personal points of view are filtered by the modern’s world views and perceptions and the personal artistic statements accomplish and embrace their peculiarities”.

The professor Christopher Nowicki, underlines that although the artists themselves have been working with a variety of techniques, there is always a common aspect that brings them together.  “Aesthetic values, technical experiences, a common philosophy on the notions of art and the intention to reach perfection on their work, are the obvious common elements that bring the artists together…”
