…we decided that the proper form of such a museum would be the one of a periodical building, a museum that could be transported from Baghdad to Beirut, from Teheran to Gaza and generally from one Arabic country to another. Considering the riotous political conditions in this particular area, this periodical solution was considered to be the safest one for the reason that the museum could be transported to a different country where it could continue to provide its cultural mission in case an outbreak of hostilities took place. The basic design of this singular and transportable building, is based on the constructivist concept of Mies van der Rohe, as it was applied on Rosa Luxemburg’s and Karl Liebknecht’s monument which was built in Berlin in 1923 and destroyed by Hitler in the 30s. Following the monument’s strict geometric structure which was composed of rectangular and parallelogram cubes, the architects proposed a ‘Lego-type’ structure, constructed from weightless innovative materials used in structures which would allow the building to be constructed and deconstructed easily. The design of this new Guggenheim Museum does not rely on futuristic architectural feats, but rather, it redefines the architecture of modernism, employing new aerodynamical materials and applying the breakthroughs of robotic technologies…
