‘I Trust You’
The artist (evangelia basdekis) is seating naked at the one corner of the gallery while she is stitching* on her foot the famous cartoon character Mickey Mouse and Mona Lisa portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci
The Mickey Mouse, reminisces of artist’s peaceful childhood, when it was serving the dream of the wealth west in the innocent mind of a child in Balkans Peninsula (Greece). The famous character, in this performance turns into a nightmarish symbol as it becomes the synonym of the fear that America’s politics are provoking.
Mona Lisa is questioning the Institutions (Museums, Universities) of Arts policies and politics
The performance is artist’s desperate try to articulate speech about art, life, politics, while at the same time is looking for her role in contemporary society. All the tries will end up into a parody of the ‘transgressive’ artist’ who tries to overstep the limits, to violate the boundaries, to turn upside down an orderly society while all these tries are ending up in a alla Don Quixote’s failure as the audience will always experiencing these tries as a show and always (audience) will be differentiate themselves from the fool, the blasphemous one (artist).
